Adjunct Professor - Music & Athletic Band

The Trine University Music Program seeks an adjunct faculty for the academic year 2026-2027.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Instruct instrument sections (brass, woodwind, or drumline) based on the candidate’s area of expertise and teach drill for the Trine University Sound of Thunder Marching Band and Pep Band during rehearsals.
• Teach courses within the Music Program, such as music theory or history or applied studies in music as applicable to the candidate’s expertise or as assigned by the Music Director. 
• Provide instructional leadership for the Sound of Thunder Marching Band and Pep Band by directing rehearsals and performances in the Director of Music’s absence, ensuring continuity in musical pedagogy, ensemble development, and student learning during home football, men’s and women’s basketball and select hockey games.
• Develop instructional drill materials for pregame and halftime performances, creating educationally grounded marching formations that support student musicians’ technical growth, spatial awareness, and performance proficiency.
• Participate in recruitment activities for the Music Program as part of student outreach and educational engagement, representing instrumental ensembles (jazz, chamber orchestra, wind ensemble, marching/pep band) at SOAR, Preview Days, Band Day, and Honor Band events, and providing prospective students with academic guidance in the absence of the Director of Music.
• Support the instructional operations of the music program through academic administration, including coordination of learning materials, planning student-centered events, and managing instructional resources (instruments, uniforms, and sheet music) necessary for effective teaching and ensemble learning within the Sound of Thunder Marching Band and Pep Band.

Education and/or Experience:

1. Successful experience with marching and pep bands (collegiate preferred), including experience with drill writing, marching techniques, choreography, and instrument instruction (brass, woodwind, or drumline).
2. Evidence of success in program administration, recruiting and retention, event planning, and inventory management.
3. Minimum of 3 years of successful teaching at the high school or collegiate level.
4. A master’s degree in music performance, music education, or conducting.
