St. Philip’s Episcopal Church seeks a director of music to serve this historically Black congregation with deep roots in Indianapolis’ Indiana Avenue neighborhood. Since its founding in 1901, music has consistently been central to the identity of the church. Today, the volunteer choir of this warm, multiracial church family offers music from diverse musical traditions including gospel, Anglican hymnody, spirituals, and contemporary praise.
Responsibilities include:
A successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to lead music from the diverse musical traditions represented in the parish, will have a history of working collaboratively and dependably with volunteers and supervisors, and will pass a required background check. Familiarity with liturgical Christian traditions such as the Episcopal or Catholic churches is helpful, but not required. Compensation and Sundays off are negotiable.
