Job Title: K–2 Music Instructional Assistant

 

Position Summary:

The K–2 Music Instructional Assistant will serve as the primary instructor for music classes in kindergarten through second grade. This role includes planning and delivering music lessons, fostering a positive and engaging learning environment, and helping students explore rhythm, melody, movement, and musical expression. This position is an hourly position with 29.75 hours per week. Insurance is not offered.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and implement weekly lesson plans that introduce foundational music concepts, including rhythm, pitch, movement, and basic instruments.
  • Lead classroom music instruction for K–2 students in a fun, inclusive, and supportive manner.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods and materials to reach all learners, including singing, instruments, games, and movement.
  • Foster a love of music and encourage student creativity and participation.
  • Maintain and organize musical instruments and classroom space.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and school leadership to integrate music into the broader curriculum.
  • Monitor student growth and provide input on student progress as needed.

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching or assisting with early childhood or elementary music instruction.
  • Strong classroom management and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to plan engaging lessons and work independently.
  • Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate music instruction.
  • Enthusiastic, flexible, and committed to fostering a joyful learning environment.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Proficiency with classroom instruments (e.g., xylophones, percussion, ukulele).
  • Ability to lead group singing and movement activities.
  • Familiarity with culturally diverse music and inclusive teaching practices.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Capable of handling classroom duties including movement around the classroom, lifting light materials, and engaging actively with students during hands-on projects.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform tasks that involve classroom setup and clean-up.
