Band Teacher (Grades 6-12) (4/7 position)

Job Description:

Southwood Jr/Sr High School is seeking a passionate and dedicated band teacher for grades 6-12 to lead our instrumental music program. This is an exciting opportunity for an educator who is committed to fostering musical growth, developing student talent, and creating a dynamic and engaging learning environment.

Responsibilities:

• Plan, organize, and lead the 6th-12th grad band program, including concert band, marching band, pep band, and small ensembles.
• Provide engaging instruction in instrumental music, technique, music theory, and performance skills.
• Direct and oversee rehearsals, performances, and participation in school and community events.
• Collaborate with school administrators, staff, and parents to support students success.
• Prepare students for concerts, competitions, and other performance opportunities.
• Maintain and care for instruments, equipment, and music library.
• Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports students growth.

Qualifications:

• Valid Indiana teaching license in Music or Fine Arts: instrumental & General Music (or ability to obtain)
• Experience teaching instrumental music preferred.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills.
• Ability to motivate and inspire students of varying skills levels.

Days: 183 contract days

Salary: This position is part of the bargaining unit
